Community Design Committee

The Princeville at Hanalei Community Association's Protective Covenants allow for a Community Design Committee (CDC) dedicated to the design review of each property within the Association. The intent of the review process is to enhance Princeville’s unique character and preserve homeowner equity.

All exterior changes to your property require the approval of the CDC. This includes but is not limited to roofing, exterior paint, tree removal, installation of propane tank and air conditioner, driveway staining, window changes, etc. The CDC Community Liaison is available to guide all homeowners through the review and approval process. For minor changes/installations click here for more information.

The CDC meets once a month, typically on Tuesdays. All items to be reviewed must be submitted by the 1st of the month to be included on that month's agenda. Incomplete packages will not be reviewed. The meetings are generally closed to homeowners. If necessary, the architect or landscape professional will be asked to present the plans.

Design Review Process for Large Projects

  • Submit the completed New Home/Renovation Application along with the plans sheets required. The plan review fee is due with submittal.
  • The CDC will review the proposed changes. The first review is just a conceptual review.
  • After the review, you will be notified in writing if you may advance to full plan review. If there are any changes required or recommended, they will be noted in writing.
  • The CDC will then review the full plan submittal. After the review, you will be notified in writing if approved or if any further changes are required.
  • A Construction and Compliance Deposit is required prior to final approvals being granted.
  • After all work is completed, call (808) 977-8715 to schedule a Final Inspection.

Design Review Process for Smaller Projects

  • Review the CDC Architectural rules around the proposed project.
  • Submit the appropriate form - Exterior Change Application/Color Scheme Application/Roof Application.
  • The package will be reviewed and any missing information will be requested.
  • Some minor projects are approved "in house" while others may require a review by the CDC.
  • The Owner will be notified in writing if the project is approved.
  • After all work is completed, call (808) 977-8715 for a Final Inspection if necessary.
